As you may have noticed, the BITW Technologies team was honored by Senator Richard Lugar as a Lugar Energy Patriot. We are proud and excited about this recognition. One of the goals of BITW Technologies is to promote energy independence by building a vehicle that can be powered by sustainable fuels, such as Bio Diesel and WVO (waste vegetable oil). Anyone that has a diesel vehicle can modify it to run on Bio Diesel or WVO. Some of the newer diesel vehicles are not capable due to emission system design. Bio Diesel and WVO are clean alternatives to petro diesel. At this time, there are many research projects examining the potential of algae derived Bio Diesel. This technology looks promising and has the potential to make the American Farmer energy independent if the farmer chooses to use some of the farm ponds as algae incubators. If every farm in America had an algae Bio Diesel processor, think of the petroleum that would be left in the countries that are hostile to the U.S.! We at BITW Technologies like the idea, coupled with super efficient vehicles!

Started up the car this morning. 5 degrees above zero and it started with no problem, just like it does at 70 degreees and sunny. Runs great in cold weather!

Wow, time sure has flown since the Progressive Insurance Automotive X-Prize Team Summit metting in Las Vegas! It has been one month since we have went to the SEMA Show for the meeting. It was very exciting to see all of the displays of automotive parts there. Amazing that there are still so many aftermarket suppliers. The meeting was a good chance to get to know the people that were running the competition and to meet other competitors. Since returning, we have been working on a number of things to get the competition car ready. The SEMA Show was a very good opportunity to meet suppliers and find things that will help us meet our 100 MPGe goals. We now have a facebook page. Here is a link. http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/group.php?gid=193753593264

We have been running studies on the airflow of the car body. This week we ran a couple of tuft tests to verify some trouble spots. This should help to reduce the drag coefficient. The test is easy to set up and execute. Take some yarn and cut several 1" strips and tape them to the body. Drive at constant speed and photograph. Obviously a second vehicle will be needed for the photographer. Make a small change by adding a device that changes airflow, i.e. spoiler, and repeat procedure.

Engine performance has shown that it will meet our specified/claimed vehicle top speed. Feels like it was made for the Metro! It is proving to be fun to drive.

Went out on a long run test Sat. Drove about 100 miles on Interstate highway. Car is at home on the road. Uphill acceleration is good. The engine like hills!

Engine is doing well on the highway. A little tweaking has boosted acceleration. Not yet scary fast, but quick! We are prepping for some track time to do efficiency runs and acceleration tests. Looking forward to that! Will post results. Car handles well in torrential downpours, as Southern Indiana has recently experienced. Could have used pontoons Monday!

We have been examining the powerplant option a bit more lately. We will be upgrading our engine soon. We expect to get a lot more HP and torque. We have even considered making the car all wheel drive to get power to the ground more efficiently. Kind of like the Eagle Talon or Subaru rally car. Our goal is to see if we can get "scary fast" out of this car! Time will tell. We are also in the process of updating the website. watch for changes.

What kind of performance do you expect to have, besides the high MPG? Will it be like the Audi sports car?

Looks like the PIAXP registration will be extended to Feb 28, 2009, due to rules revisions and MTA's not being ready. Hope that doesn't push the race schedule back. We are looking forward to running this race. The car is doing well. We are running it in stealth mode. Looks like every other Metro. Just sounds a little different and smells a bit better than it did in gasoline. We have been talking with a potential sponsor. Hoping to get things worked out with them. I will not disclose who it is at this time, but they would be a good one. We will have a page dedicated to sponsors and others that help the cause.

Here is a joke for you George: One guy says, "I converted my diesel engine to run on used cooking oil! Its great everyone should do it". Other guy says, "Well, if everyone did that, you'd have to pay for the oil, since the demand would go way up... but, hey, at least your car smells like arbys."
